The Mary Traynor Collection

‘The Mary Traynor Collection’ consists of sketches and paintings of threatened buildings.  Mary is a former Conservation Caseworker and Chair of the Wales Group of The Victorian Society, and therefore,involves herself in the efforts to save good Victorian and Edwardian buildings from demolition or inappropriate alteration.

Cardiff Bay at Low Tide in 1986, Cardiff.

The barrage was opened in 2001 to create the fresh/sea water lake.

 

The Islamic Centre, Maria Street, Butetown in 1988, Cardiff.

The Islamic Centre was demolished when Callaghan Square was constructed.

Globe Cinema, Albany Road, Roath, Cardiff.

A reconstruction based on sketches and photographs of how the cinema might have looked in the 1920’s. It opened in 1913 and was a listed Grade II building but was demolished to build The Pear Tree Cafe.
